The first UK adventure race where you need crampon-compatible footwear to compete has just launched its own web site with all the information you need. Volunteers for marshalling needed too.
Just a quicky to let you know that the rather fetching Red Bull
Northern Exposure web site is now up, running and, erm, fully
exposed.
You can take a look at it by clicking this cunning
hyperlink. Don't be put off by the Flash stuff by the way, it
loads quickly and there aren't a lot of silly gimmicks to waste your
time. Instead you can cut straight to the information.

'I reckon it were the wolves that
got him'
pre-race recce in full flow, sorry, snow

Date, as we've told you before, is 12-17 April, entry is 500 quid per
mixed team of four racers and the event is based in the Cairngorms,
more specifically at Glenmore Lodge, near Aviemore and it looks
tough. It's the first adventure race in the UK, that we're aware of,
where competitors need, and will be tested on, winter mountaineering
skills.
All the information you're likely to need is on the site including
information on the disciplines involved, the mandatory and extensive
kit list - hint: you'll need a sleeping bag rated to minus 10 degrees
C for this one and crampon-compatible footwear. Serious stuff.
There's also a team mate finder facility if you don't know anyone
bonkers enough to race with you, and the organisers, Messrs Duffy and
Watkins are looking for volunteer marshalls to man checkpoints and
support weary competitors.
We're hoping to be able to bring you some sort of firsthand
coverage of the event on OUTDOORSmagic, so watch this space. Oh, and
one last thing, if the web site soundtrack's anything to go by, you'd
best pack some wolf repellant...
Adventure racing is, as ever, extraordinarily challenging.
Especially in winter. In Scotland. With wolves. Rumours that huge
tannoys will adorn the hills blasting out lupine howls are currently
unconfirmed.
