November, remember that? Darkness, greyness, wetness... A bit like August really. Except that in November, there's not one, but two British mountain film festivals to pop in your diary.

First there's the Kendal Mountain Film Festival, which this year runs from 12 - 20 November, with the main weekend being 18-20 November - apparently the Festival was cited by the Sunday Times as being one of the reasons young people are attracted to Kendal as a place to live...

Anyway, moving swiftly on, here's some early news on this year's programme. Big names so far include Alan Hinkes, Kitty Calhoun, Leo Houlding, Dave MacLeod and Simone Moro. Plus there will presentations by photographer John Beattie and Leo Dickinson on the adventurous life of his friend Eric Jones.

Films? Oh yes, there will around 250 of them entered in the international competition. On top of that, the UK's only Mountain Book Festival will feature Robert Macfarlane, Ed Douglas, Jim Perrin, Andy Cave and Julie Summers.

Tickets should be available in mid-August if you're feeling keen. You can buy them online at www.mountainfilm.co.uk or through the box office on 01539 725133.

And if one mountain film festival wasn't enough, there's also the Dundee Mountain Film Festival from 25 - 27 November 2005.

Looks like a good programme too. Conrad Anker, apparently voted the world's best-looking mountaineer headlines the festival alongside five times Everest summiteer Dave Hahn and Canadian Nancy Hansen, who presents her record-breaking climb of all 54, 11000 feet peaks in the Canadian Rockies.

Legendary Brit, Mick Fowler will be talking about his exploration of new routes on the high peaks from around the world and there's more on top of that.

On the fillm side of things, there?s the pick of The Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour, and a selection of action films submitted by private producers.

Looking good then. There's more information at www.dundeemountainfilm.org.uk
