Observer Highlights Mountain Huts
Top alpine retreats featured including some stunning walkers' huts.

A quick heads up on an article in Sunday's Observer Escape travel
section for anyone contemplating a trip to the Alps with Eric Kendall
picking out his '20 Alpine
Retreats For Summer' including some eminently affordable
high mountain options.
For once - and this is unusual for a Sunday paper - many of the picks
are reasonably-priced walking huts rather than ridiculous boutique
hotels, though the odd one of those does sneak in as well. Check out
the 'Walkers' section for options in Switzerland and France and the
'Easy Access' ones for similarly reasonably-priced mountain refuges in
Italy and Austria as well.
For some reason the atmospheric, historic and very accessible
Montenvers Hut above Chamonix doesn't merit a mention, though we'd
recommend it. The nearby Albert 1st Refuge under the Aiguile Vert
however does.
Well worth an idle, fantasty trip-planning browse over your lunch hour.
