While you've got your diary out, a quick note that the Ambleside
October Fest is back again this year with a week of activities
centred around Gaynor Sports in Ambleside and with all proceeds going
to the Langdale and Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team.
Last year's October Fest was a cracking success and won the
Outdoor Industries Association 'Retailer Promotion of the Year' award
into the bargain with a range of activities all in a good cause
too.
This year's event will feature expert equipment advice from
representatives of major outdoor brands including Berghaus, Lowe
Alpine, Brasher, LEKI, Odlo, Vango and Grangers, plus guided walks,
'take and test' oppportunities, clinic, special promotions and
competitions.
There'll also be a chance to try a new sport called 'Nordic
Walking', which originates in Sweden, looks like a cross between
cross country skiing and, ahem, walking and is going to be heavily
promoted by pole specialists Leki, who are running a series of
sessions aimed at families and using specially designed Nordic
Walking poles.
Have a pint with Sir Chris B...
Chris Bonington's due to be signing copies of his latest book in
Gaynor Sports on Tuesday 28 October and you'll be able to join him in
the Golden Rule for a pint or two in the evening. The drinks are on
Chris. Actually we just invented that bit, but he will be in the pub,
it says here.
Dates of the October Fest are 26 October - 1 November. You can
find more details on the October Fest - Oktober Fest shurely -
web site
or by telephoning 01539 434204.
