Ever wondered how big your garden is compared to Wales?

The Indian Earthquake, annual depletion of the rainforests, Sri Lanka, Lake Vostok…you name it, 9 times out of 10 it is some multiple/fraction/percentage of the size of Wales.
What is it with Wales? Do other countries use Wales as well? Do Asians refer to Wales as being the size of Sri Lanka or do they just accept Wales’ unrivalled status as ‘measurement of big things’? And has Wales ever been declared an official unit of measurement?
SI units aside, thanks to extensive OUTDOORSmagic research on the issue you too can now express anything you like in terms of Wales. This fantastic size of Wales site allows you to type in any length, breadth or area and instantly convert it into its relative size compared to Wales. The site also includes a whole host of information including some Welsh Facts like, ‘Agriculture is the main industry in Wales with the primary export being sheep. In fact there are so many sheep that they cover an area the size of Wales.’ Astonishing!
Further research suggested Wales had a place in a complex hierarchy of measurement, precisely tailored to different shapes. There was general consensus on the ‘tennis court – football pitch – Wales’ rising hierarchy of areas, with London Bus being used mainly for height and volume descriptions.
OUTDOORSmagic has pledged to compile a list of areas of outstanding natural beauty often described in terms of Wales. It’s a huge project and we need your help, so please give generously in the forum below. Thank you.

I'll start. The Kruger National Park in South Africa is the size of Wales. Anyone else know any 'size of Wales' places?
