Coniston WaterAn extra guided walk taking in the Old Man of Coniston, Swirl How and Weatherlam - 9 miles in total - has been added to the Coniston Walking Festival programme for this Saturday, 29th September.

The additional walk is graded 'strenuous' and it lines up alongside three other walks in the same category: 'Coniston Heights', 'Coniston Tops', and 'Coniston Horseshoe'. Two of these also take in the Old Man, but so many people wanted to avoid taking it easy over the weekend of the festival that the organisers just had to add one more:-)

Not only that, but if you don't fancy treading the paths in the hills around coniston, there'll be a chance to find out which socks will do the best job of keeping your feet and your footwear on speaking terms next time you do.

Event sponsors Bridgedale are holding a Sock Surgery on Saturday 29th September from 9am to 11am and 3pm to 5pm, which is completely free. All you have to do is make your way to the Tourist Information Centre and keep your ears open for the latest top tips on all things socky.

Advance booking is essential for all of the guided walks though, even where there's no charge - call 01533 944 1533 to book your place.
