Weekend Weather 6-7th December 2002

This is our regular Friday round-up of what's in store for the weekend. Still no sign of the excellent Online Weather mountain forecast.

• The Met Office says Saturday is going tobe cloudy, windy and cold, but mainly dry in the west, showers in the east, some wintry. Sunday looks much the same. If you want to see where it's been raining already - yeah, very useful - take a look at the rainfall animation.

• The BBC Weather site uses Met Office data, but is generally easier to follow. General outlook for Saturday says cold and cloudy with north easterly winds. Dry in west, showers continuing in the east, some wintry over high ground. Sunday more of the same, with some brighter spells possible in west, but wintry showers pushing inland on the eastern side.

• Check BBC's specific areas: Fort William / Kendal / Betws-y-Coed / Aviemore / Skipton / Glossop (Peak) / Brecon / Milton Keynes. Looking chilly everywhere, should be freezing up top.

Saturday's general forecast from Online Weather i s pretty much in agreement with everyone else's. Sunday map seems to show brighter spells and wintry showers everywhere. Are they right, who knows? The mountain forecast is now tagged to return in January.

Wasdale weather daily reports and a pic from OM member Guy Newbold who lives and works in Wasdale. Straight from the horse's mouth.

Mainly dry and cold...
But cloudy and showery in the east.

Verdict Warm stuff and windproofs for the weekend, don't forget a warm hat and gloves as it's going to be freezing on the tops and there's a cold easterly wind blowing.

Craven Disclaimer Hey come on, we all know mountain weather's unpredictable, and while the above forecasts and links are a guide to what the weather may do, remember that mountain areas also tend to generate their own conditions, temperatures are much cooler up top than in the valleys and conditions can be totally different from down in the valleys.
