Walter The Weathergirl waxes lyrical on the weekend weather as we enter the last chance salon. Waxing, yer know, erm, I'll get me rain coat...

Weekend Weather 14-15 December
2002
|
This is our regular Friday round-up of what's in store
for the weekend. Still no sign of the excellent Online Weather
mountain forecast, allegedly back in January.
• The Met
Office says Saturday is going to be cloudy with rain or sleet
over the north of the country. Wet and windy in south. Sunday still
cloudy but drier oop north. If you want to see where it's been
raining already - yeah, very useful - take a look at the rainfall
animation.
• The BBC
Weather site uses Met Office data, but is generally easier to
follow. General outlook for Saturday says cloudy, misty,
drizzly then proper rain in the south. Sunday cold, possibly
bright in north western Scotland, elsewhere cloudy wet and windy with
possibility of heavy rain and maybe sleet and snow on northern
English hills. Cold.
• Check BBC's specific areas: Fort
William / Kendal
/ Betws-y-Coed
/ Aviemore
/ Skipton
/ Glossop
(Peak) / Brecon
/ Milton
Keynes. Cool everywhere, freezing on the tops we reckon, Monday
and Tuesday looking much better. Time to call in sick?
• Saturday's
general forecast from Online Weather paints the UK as wet at both
ends, cloudy in the middle. Sunday
wet everywhere, except the far north of Scotland.
• Wasdale
weather daily reports and a pic from OM member Guy Newbold who
lives and works in Wasdale. Straight from the horse's mouth.
Scottish
Avalanche Information Service - avalanche and climbing condition
forecasts for five main Scottish climbing areas, technically active,
but apparently nowt to report yet.
Monday and Tuesday looking good.
Shame about the weekend.
Verdict If you've been tricked into doing the Christmas
shopping or plastering the garage, don't fret, the weather for the
weekend isn't looking lovely for the main part. If you are out, warm
layers and waterproof shell clothing to cope with wind, rain and
cold. Brrrr...
Craven Disclaimer Hey come on, we all know
mountain weather's unpredictable, and while the above forecasts and
links are a guide to what the weather may do, remember that mountain
areas also tend to generate their own conditions, temperatures are
much cooler up top than in the valleys and conditions can be totally
different from down in the valleys.
