Weekend Weather
29th-30th March 2003
|
This is our regular Friday
round-up of what's in store for the weekend. Latest news on
the excellent Online Weather mountain forecast, is that it's
now due back in early February, which is about erm last
month and almost the month before. but it's still not quite
up...
The Met
Office says Saturday's
going to windy and showery in northern Scotland, but mostly
sunny elsewhere except in the south, which will have
cloudiness. Temps between about 9 and 13 C, light winds
except in the far north. Sunday also looking good
excpet for East Anglia, but then who cares about somewhere
that flat? Looks like it's dry with sunny spells in the
northern half of the UK, sunny in the south and midlands.
Temps between 10 and 12 C, winds light except in Scotland
where there'll be stiffer westerly winds.
Plus there's an article
about mountain weather and safety. Worth a quick scan.
Finally 360-degree Met Office web cams in Scotland
here.
The BBC
Weather site uses Met Office
data, but is generally easier to follow. General outlook for
Saturday is for cloud thinning in the south, showers
and wind in the far north, sunny elsewhere.Sunday
mostly fine, dry weather with occasional sunshine, cloudier
and breezier in north with some showers. Feeling cool to
start with then warming up fast.
Check BBC's specific areas:
Fort
William / Kendal
/ Betws-y-Coed
/ Aviemore
/ Skipton
/ Glossop
(Peak) / Brecon
/ Milton
Keynes. Eastern Scotland looks
the best bet if you want to stay dry...
Saturday's
general forecast from Online
Weather takes the opposite view to the Met Office predicting
moslty cloudy with drizzle over most of the country. Dry in
Scotland except in far north which will be cloudy and windy
in parts of northern Scotland. Sunday
dry weather with some sunshine in most parts, cloudy in some
parts of north western Scotland. Still no mountain forecast.
Scotland
Online Mountain Weather - Handy
specialist mountain forecasts for Scottish east and west
Highland areas and, strangely, Snowdonia and the Lake
District. Well worth a look.

Wasdale
weather - daily reports updated
before 10 am and a current pic - always worth a loook just
for the piccy, nice misty Wastwater shots today - from OM
member Guy Newbold who lives and works in Wasdale. Straight
from the horse's mouth.
Scottish
Avalanche Information Service -
forecasts at the time of writing moderate with conditions
apparently becoming spring like - avalanche forecast is
pretty well loweverywhere, but watch out for collapsing
cornices where the sun gets on them.

OUTDOORSmagic
web cam page Links to all the UK
mountain web cams we're aware of. If there's one that we've
missed, please drop
us a line and we'll add it to the
page. Good for getting a general idea of what the snow
situation's like, if the sun is shining, whether there's
anywhere to park in Coniston etc. Check the image you're
viewing is up to date as they often seem to go down. Ho
hum...
Mostlydry and even sunny again...
This still can't be right.
Verdict Sounds like it'll cloudier
than recently, but with sunny spells and still a great
looking weekend. Bear in mind it'll still be chilly on the
tops, particularly in the wind, so don't forget windproofs,
gloves, hat etc. Have a good one.
Craven Disclaimer Hey come on,
we all know mountain weather's unpredictable, and while the
above forecasts and links are a guide to what the weather
may do, remember that mountain areas also tend to generate
their own conditions, temperatures are much cooler up top
than in the valleys and conditions can be totally different
from down in the valleys.
