OM Forum Gets Easier Linking

It's now much easier to make clickable links in your forum postings, plus if you're feeling really expressive, you can even format your text. Cool or what????

We didn't have any Christmas lights to switch on, so instead, we've just made it a whole lot easier to post clickable links on the OUTDOORSmagic forum.

Until now you had to use html hyperlinks if you wanted to post a clickable link to an external site, but that's all changed and it's become a lot simpler, so simple that even we can do it.

How To Make A Simple Clickable URL

It's easy, just type before the name of the link and after it. So....

www.outdoorsmagic.com

or

http://www.outdoorsmagic.com

will both produce a clickable link www.outdoorsmagic.com

How To Make Linked Text

If you want to be really clever, you can even produce linked text, which is a particularly good idea with, say, multimap links which otherwise expand the page sideways and annoy everyone.

The good news is that it's almost as simple as a straightforward link.

that flippin outdoors site

will create a text link like this: that flippin outdoors site

Formatted Text

Finally you can also now make words bold, italicised or underlined by adding simple tabs:

bold

italic

underlined

Note

Old links in existing posts will remain clickable, but if you want to add new links, you have to use the new mark-up codes, html will no longer work.

So there you go. Big thanks to the Magicalia tech team for making everyone's life easier in time for Christmas :-)

We've just rationalised the way clickable links are created on the forum - no more html - Hurrah! - instead a simple new mark-up code.

Full details in the article at the top of this thread :-)

Now working :-)

Jon,
This will definitely make life easier (although three cheers for Gordy's Link Generator until now).
But one question - will the new link method open stuff in a new window or the existing window? (A choice would be even better but failing that my vote would go for a new window.)

I'm 90 per-cent sure it will open a new window.
