OM Gets New Search Engine

It's new, it's a beta and it actually works, er, probably...

You may not realise this, but OUTDOORSmagic is now something like seven years old and that means there's an awful lot of content on the site. Up till now our search engine has been rather random, but the good news is that we're trialling a new search engine on the site right now.

Initially it's applicable only to articles on the site, but if it works as it's supposed to, it will be extended to cover the forum, the gallery and so on. You can see the new search in action by using the search boxes on the homepage, or on the Gear, Travel, OTH and Routes pages.

Not only will you get a listing of articles containing the word you search for, but you can also break the results down by categories, author or by date range. There's also a related searches box.

To give you an idea, we searched for the handy word 'Todger' - above - and uncovered no fewer than 25 articles by or about the great Alfred Todger, author of the legendary Outdoors Diary.

But anyway, don't take our word for it, go and have a play and use the forum thread at the bottom of this article to tell us what you think.

We're trialling a new search engine on OM, initially in the Gear, Travel, OTH and Reviews section. We think it's a lot better than before so have a play and let us know what you think using this forum thread.

It will, eventually, if successful, be extended site wide to cover the forum, gallery and so on.

Enjoy

Well, I searched for Lord Lucan and nothing came up...

but now it should!

...except that evidently it doesn't search the forums yet

So Lord Lucan is still not to be found...
