This is just a reminder that the next OM weekend meet is taking place at Fisherground, Eskale from 15th to 17th September - everyone welcome. There've been a handful of OM meets over the years and they're always very informal affairs, without a trip organiser as such. (If you want your questions answered about how OM meets work, from the level of experience catered for, through to how (un)structured things are likely to be, find all the answers in the OM meets forum thread.) Joining us is pretty simple though. All you need to do is post in the forum to let us know you're coming along, turn up, pitch your tent, and find some friendly OM faces to go walking or scrambling with. Easy as a pint after a long day's walking:-)

To make the most of the weekend, we're going to be turning up with a few freebies, and some test gear, for OMers to try. Dave Mycroft, our routes editor, has offered to bring along some GPS systems so that GPS virgins can try them out and find out what all the fuss is about. For those who consequently decide that electronic navigation's the way forward, and those who have long been fans, we also have two sets of mapping software to give away: the ViewRanger Great Britain Edition and ViewRanger GB National Parks Edition. Dave reviewed the National Parks edition not long ago, so if you want to find out more about it, find out the low-down here.
It won't all be about GPS though. Podcast Bob, from Backpackinglight.co.uk, is also going to be joining us and he's bringing some test gear with him, including 2006 and 2007 rucksacks from OMM, Golite, Gregory, Lightwave and Crux, and a handful of tents to put up. If anything takes your fancy, he'll also have some cut-price gear to sell including a selection of Montane clothing on 'very' special offer, Villain rucksacks, new tarps, titanium stoves and cookwear, bivvy bags, and a few other bits and bobs.
Last but not least, we can't forget the all-important subject of food. Bob and Dave are going to demo food dehydrators on site with an assortment of home made dehydrated meals. We haven't sampled their cooking before, so we make no promises, but it sounds like a good idea to us:-)
Other than that, the weekend will just be about going for a walk or scramble and generally catching up with everyone. We'll be kicking off with Friday evening in The Mothership, so when you roll up in the Lakes, pop your head round the door and you should find us there (assuming it's before closing time:-)
There's still plenty of time to decide you want to join. If you're looking for transport then it might be worth posting in the forum to see if anyone else is travelling to the Lakes from your area. It saves on petrol, and after all, we're all nice environmentally friendly people here:-)
Hopefully see you on 15th...
