Good news for Apple
Macintosh and iPhone users who've long been unable to use
OS mapping on their computers, a British outfit called RouteBuddy is about
to launch Ordnance
Survey maps for both phone and Macs.
 RouteBuddy
is a mapping application that works under Mac OS X and supports various
devices including Garmin GPS units allowing you to transfer routes to
and from the unit and to plan them on your Mac.
Also available is an iPhone App called Route Buddy Atlas which
effectively turns your iPhone into a navigation tool using its built-in
GPS unit and allowing you both to see exactly where you are and upload
tracks to and from your Macintosh.
It all sounds like the news that Mac users have been waiting for.
RouteBuddy tell us that they have all 403 OS 1:25,000 Explorer maps of
the UK ready and waiting to go, and they should be available from their
online store in the near future.
In the mean time, we have an evaluation map on the way and we'll let
you know how we get on with both software and the mapping itself. So,
no more PC emulation, Mac users rejoice!
More information plus downoadable trial versions of the software from www.routebuddy.com.
You can find RouteBuddy Atlas in the Apple iPhone App Store and
download it for free. It's also compatible with the iPod Touch.
Discuss this story
Not that it helps me much but, this iphone app comes pre loaded with a 1:25k OS map of the Afan Valley. And it would appear (though i can't check until i get home) that a PC will do the job if you don't have a Mac.
