It's spring, not that you'd ever guess from looking out of the window, but that means it's time for the first OM Meet-Up of the year in the Lake District.

Where and When?

The date is the weekend of 7-9 May and the venue is the Sykes Farm Campsite (Tel. 017687 70222 / GR. 173171 ) in Buttermere. Sykes actually gets a mention in this BBC article about the world's best campsites:

'Not so much for the small quiet site, but for its location - smack-bang in the middle of the most beautiful valley in (some believe) the most beautiful part of England. From your tent door you can see Buttermere and Crummock Water, Sour Milk Gill, Red Pike, High Stile, Haystacks, and many other lovely mountains. 30(ish) minutes walk from the campsite brings you to Scale Force (120ft waterfall) or Bleaberry tarn on the slopes of Red Pike (absolutely beautiful, clear and still and silent when encountered in hill fog). The tiny village of Buttermere is surrounded by lush pasture and wildflower meadows, and many small birds and even red squirrels are everywhere.'

So, great walking and just as importantly, there are two pubs within easy reach of the site :-)

What's A Meet-Up?

Simple really, it's an informal get together and a chance for anyone who uses the site to come along, meet other OMers, put faces to names and names to faces and get out together and walk, climb or scramble for a couple of days. Just as important it's absolutely compulsory to go to the pub, have a few beers, chill out and relax.

There are no guided routes and it's up to you what you do, but there will be plenty of other people with ideas, so one thing's certain, you won't be out on your own unless you want to be.

Montane Too...
The other good news is that some of the guys from top UK brand Montane will be coming along for the weekend, so you'll have the chance to see some of their new kit and maybe even try it out, plus quiz the designers on why things are like they are. Check out the Montane web-site for a look at their kit.

Want To Come Along?

Everyone is welcome, just roll up to the campsite on Friday night and stay as long as you want. To give us an idea of how many people are thinking of coming along though, please just sign up on the forum thread below with a note of when you expect to arrive and how many of you there are. One entry only please. There's a another thread for general discussion.
