Coming very soon to a hill perhaps not near you...
Just a reminder about the OM summer meets, one of which is coming up the weekend after this.
OUTDOORSmagic Lakes Meet-Up: 7-8 June
We're going to head for the Duddon Valley in the Lakes - see
map - where we'll be staying at the campsite at Turner Hall Farm,
just up the road from Seathwaite. It's a nice scenic site with
reasonable if basic facilities and there's a good pub ten minutes
walk away in Seathwaite.
The area's much quieter than the 'honeypots' like Ambleside,
Langdale or Patterdale, but it's beautiful with nice climbing at all
grades nearby at Wallowbarrow or access to the Coniston Fells and Dow
Crag via the Walna Scar Road which starts just up the valley.
All welcome as ever. See
this
forum thread if there's anything you want to know or ask.
And also there's the...
OUTDOORSmagic Welsh 3000s Meet-Up: 30-31 August
Following on from last year's rather sad attempt to tackle all the
Welsh 3000s in a day, we're going to have another crack at it in
August. Full details to be announced nearer the date, but we're going
to arrange logistical back up, so you should be re-fuelled at various
points.
It's a very hard day, but if you fancy a crack at it, start
training now. Of course you can still come along even if you're not
interested in the 3000s. Provisionally we'll be staying at the camp
site just down the A5 from Capel with, you guessed it, easy access to
the pub.
More details on this
forum thread.
So What's A Meet-Up Then?
We held our first OUTDOORSmagic Meet-Up two years ago in Snowdonia
and we're run them regularly since then including a successful Gore
Event in the Lakes last autumn. The Meet-Ups are simply an open to
everyone opportunity to get together with other OM users, put faces
to names, go walking and climbing together - or apart if you prefer -
and spend a night or two getting happily inebriated in the pun with
like-minded people.
Like we said, everyone is welcome, and every Meet-Up we've run so
far has been a blast. There's no charge, no pack drill, all you have
to do is turn up. In the past we've organised lifts from local
stations or further afield, so you're not excluded if you don't
drive.
And more...
There's a Meets and Partners section of the forum, which exists
purely so you can arrange to get together with other site members,
organise trips etc. Take a look by clicking
here.
And last but not least, a group of OUTDOORSmagic members have
formed their own BMC-affiliated outdoors club, which is a web-based,
national group which organises regular meets in mountain areas
throughout the UK. For more details, see the Mixed
Routes web site.
