It's just five days to go before the OUTDOORSmagic
SuperMeet in the Lake District and it's shaping up to be a
cracker and almost certainly the biggest OM Meet-Up ever.
What makes the SuperMeet different is that along with the usual
opportunities to go walking, scrambling or climbing, meet fellow
OMers and partake of fine wine and ales, the meet is also going to
feature an Auction with a donation for each item sold going to
local Lakes Mountain Rescue Teams.
Even better, Barclay's Bank has agreed to match the auction
donations on a pound for pound basis, effectively doubling the funds
going to the teams.
The Auction - Saturday Night
In the case of items donated by manufacturers and OUTDOORSmagic,
the entire proceeds will go to mountain rescue. To whet your appetite
we can tell you that there are now over 50 auction lots with
highlights including:
- A Lightwave tent
- Rab Vapour jacket
- Montane Lightspeed Jackets
- An Alpkit down sleeping bag
- A place on a winter skills course
- Several rare mountaineering books
The auction will be held at the Barn End Bar, Sykeside, commencing
7pm on Saturday night. There will be a "trading desk" where winning
bidders can collect their goods and make payment. Payment will be
accepted by cheque or cash - sorry no credit/debit cards.
What Else?
Wasdale and Patterdale MRTs will be present on the night, and will
bring over a rescue vehicle and dogs for people to see. Plus Alpkit
and Montane will be at the meet to display a range of products and
answer any questions you may have.
Where And When?
The SuperMeet takes place this coming weekend - Friday 8 to Sunday
10 July. We'll be camping at Sykeside Camp Site which is
situated on the Patterdale side of the Kirkstone Pass by
Brotherswater. Details at www.sykeside.co.uk
There will be a special area for OM campers, so ask when you
arrive or look out for the Sherpa prayer flags on the editorial tent
:-)
If You're Coming
Please sign in on the SuperMeet roll call
thread so the organisers can keep abreast of likely numbers.
Finally huge thanks to OM members Dave Mycroft, Cara Lynn
Reynolds, Stu the climbing bank manager and others who've put an
immense amount of effort into making this very worthwhile event
happen.
See you there :-)
