The Peak District
National Park is celebrating the 60th Anniversary of
the law that created National Parks on 16 December and as part of the
celebrations, £5,000
has been ear-marked for an enduring project to be voted for by the
public.
There are no fewer than seven schemes up for selection, the idea is
that the chosen one will, in the words of the Peak Distict National
Park Authority, be 'a 'legacy project' that will be a lasting reminder
of the importance of national parks for people, for wildlife and for
the nation's heritage'.
We won't list all the potential projects here, but they include
improvements to the walkers' shelter on Grindsbrook, Kinder Scout
adding a window and door to keep sheep from getting in - baaaa... -
along with benches and information boards.
Or you could opt to repair and restore the summit markers at Stanage
Pole and the trig points on Stanage Edge. Or to produce 'an
inspirational video for schools and v isitor centres'. Or to makeover
the Monsal Head viewpoint, which is one of the most visited in the Park
and is apparently quite scruffy.
Anyway, in an X-Factor stylee, the decision is yours. Get yourself over
to www.peakdistrict.gov.uk where
you can see details of all the projects on offer and cast an online
vote.
