Here's one for your diary, the 5
Edges Sponsored Walk in aid of Edale Mountain Rescue Team,
is happening in the Peak on Sunday
11 October, 2008 and is an ideal way of getting in a
decent walk and supporting a good cause at the same time.
The event is being organised by Aston Comprehensive School sixth
formers as part of their A-Level studies and starts and finishes at the
Robin Hood Inn in Baslow. The distance is around six miles, so family
friendly, but the route takes in no fewer than - you guessed it - five
local edges, Birchens Edge, White Edge, Curbar Edge, and Gardoms Edge.
The whole event, say the organisers, is designed to be family friendly
with marshalled checkpoints on the walk itself and refreshments, face
paints and certificates available all day.
Registration will be open in the field next to the pub from 9.30 am to
11.00 am with entries available on the day. The entry fee is
£5 for adults (18+), £2.50 children and children at
the age of three and under, free.
All proceeds go to the Edale MRT and while you don't have to, you can
raise extra revenue by getting sponsorship for your efforts - the top
fundraiser wins a free day of outdoor instruction in the Peak.
It's great to see young peope involved in such a positive event and in
aid of a great cause. You can find more information and download an
entry form, information pack and flyer from the Edale MRT web site at www.edalemountainrescue.co.uk.
