Challenging 26-mile walk or run in the Brecon Beacons to raise funds for Raleigh International. Want to have a go? Here's how.

Fancy a walk or ever a quick jog over the SAS's favourite training
grounds, while raising cash for a decent organisation in assocaition
with a major UK gear manufacturer and a major UK outdoors
retailer?
Deep breath... The Brecon Beacons Challenge, sponsored by Berghaus
and YHA Adventure Shops, is a 26-mile yomp across the Himalaya, oops,
the Brecon Beacons, the proceeds from which go to Raleigh
International, the youth development charity that specialises in
taking teenagers to far flung places - doing us all a favour in the
process. This event will raise funds specifically for the "At Risk"
programme that supports socially excluded young people in the UK.
The dates of the event are Friday 12- Sunday 14 July - though you
only walk on one day - and over 500 people are expected to take part.
Entry is on a team basis, with groups of between four and six taking
part and you can go as fast or as slowly as you like.
Raleigh International are also working generally with YHA
Adventure Shops - see the OUTDOORSmagic
shopping section - who will be providing Raleigh volunteers with
advice and discounts.
Chris Lines, Berghaus PR and Retail Marketing Manager, comments:
"The Brecon Beacons Challenge is a great event - it is
accessible to those who want to walk around the course at a leisurely
pace, but for other teams it can be an exciting race around some
fantastic scenery. Berghaus has entered teams in the past, but we're
really pleased to be able to work with YHA Adventure Shops this year
and sponsor the event outright."
Oh, one final attraction, it may well be that you spot a
bedraggled OUTDOORSmagic editor being dragged round by the Berghaus
team. If that's the case, don't worry, I'm only there for the
Saturday night barbecue...
