Pic of the Month

Alpine and Kiwi mountain snaps inherit the socky stakes in this month's Bridgedale photo comp.

Another month, four more walking weekends (some of them rather damp), and five more pairs of socks to give away. Yes, the nice guys at Bridgedale are still handing out Trekkers to the best photographers in the OM gallery and this month the winning pics were both mountainous ones. Obviously? Well, not really - the last couple of winning photos have actually featured an OMer locked in the village stocks and a dalek, so it's nice to get back to some hilly scenes ...

July's new sock owner-to-be is Alan Bellis for his pic of Lac Blanc, in the Mont Blanc Massif. It accompanies a host of other lofty Alpine snaps in the rather popular Alan's Mountain Travels - Chamonix album, including cracking shots of the Aiguille du Midi and Mont Blanc at Sunrise. He tells us it took two treks to put the album together as the weather wasn't playing ball first time around, but the extra effort was well worth it for the photos - and now the socks too.

Runner up in the competition is Kurt Lancaster, who travelled a bit further afield to take this pic of Mount Egmont - all the way to New Zealand's North Island, in fact. See some more of his photos in the album Some Pics Over The Last Year - if you're feeling nostalgic for the winter, you'll be pleased to know that they're mostly snowy ones - or you can head to the forum and debate the name of Mount Egmont. Mount Taranaki or Mount Egmont? The Maori name or the English one? Hmmm, decisions decisions ...

Alan Bellis takes home three pairs of Trekkers for his efforts and Kurt Lancaster bags the other two - and that's just this month's supply. There'll be five more pairs of socks on offer next month, and to be in with a chance of winning them, all you have to do is upload your photos to the gallery.

Good luck and make the most of the sunshine! Not that we're worried it might not last or anything!
