Prime Minister Gordon Brown is set to host a reception in
'Celebration of British Mountaineering' for the BMC at No.10
Downing Street for the BMC this October complete with a mobile
climbing tower/
The event on Wednesday 8 October, 2008, is says the BMC 'being
held in recognition of the work of the BMC, of all British
mountaineering activities and the current role our sport plays in
contributing to a fit and active nation in the 21st century'.
Not only will the PM be there, but it will be attended by
Government ministers, members of the House of Lords and senior civil
servants. In addition, the BMC has submitted a list of people to be
invited from the mountaineering world.
The mobile climbing tower will be set up in Gordon's back yard, so
guests can burn him off on the rock and show him and the other
government bigwigs exactly what they're missing out on.
If your invitation never arrives though, don't sulk, places are
strictly limited, and anyway, we've heard the food isn't up to
much... And given the social graces of many of the climbers we know, we're guessing the BMC may be a tad selective with who they choose to invite ;-)
