Radio 2 DJs Mark Radcliffe and Stuart Maconie are off to walk the length of Hadrian's Wall this week, stopping off to broadcast live from venues along the wall.

The pair will be starting this Friday 4 September from Bowness-on-Solway on the Cumbrian coast and are scheduled to arrive in Wallsend in the north east six days later on Thursday 10 September. The pair willl be joined by by guests and musicians for their stops along the way, including indie folk band Noah And The Whale, folk quartet The Unthanks, British Sea Power and singer-songwriter Richard Hawley plus other special guests.

The shows won't be open to the public, but you'll be able to find out how the hiking DJs are getting along by tuning into Radio 2 between 8pm and 10pm between 4 and 6 September.

Mark Radcliffe says: "It's one of the great British Walks and I can't wait to get out on the trail. There's something deeply satisfying about crossing the country of your birth from coast to coast. And despite what Stuart thinks, he's not getting any piggybacks!"

The Hadrian's Wall Path National Trail is relatively young and offers 84 miles of varied walking through a mix of moorland, rolling fields and urban landscapes.

Hadrian’s Wall Heritage Ltd (HWHL) has helped the programme’s production team to organise the journey.  Neil Carney, Marketing Manager from HWHL says: “We’re very excited that Stuart and Mark are going to be walking all the way along Hadrian’s Wall and getting the chance to see one of Britain’s greatest heritage sites, as well the stunning and varied scenery in which it’s set.  More than 8,000 people walk the Trail end-to-end each year, and it’s a fun way to explore Hadrian’s Wall.”
