E-mail malfunction leaves Ramblers choking on their socks...
In a master stroke of 'shooting self in sock', the Ramblers
Association has succeeded in spamming its own members due to what
looks like a malfunctioning mailing list.
Fuming Ramblers awoke to 70 or more e-mails generated by the
official Ramblers web site news mailing list consisting mainly of
other members furiously demanding to be taken off the list. Their
response was naturally to hit reply and complain further, thus
generating even more traffic...
For those of us who assumed the list was merely a gestural device,
the whole thing came as a wake-up call showing that the good old
Ramblers really are dragging themselves into the the 20th Century (and yes,
we do mean the 20th Century...)
Just so you don't miss out, here are a few of the responses from
Outraged of 'Rambling Free', Nether Wallop:
'I've received 40 such messages in 2 days. Let's sort it out'
- A Rambler
'In common with what appears to be half the UK population I am
being copied many times with the above. Kindly remove my name from
your E-Mail address list without delay.'
- A.N.Other-Rambler
'Is this a conspiracy by van hoogstraten? why are all these error
messages coming to me?'
- Y.T.A.Nother-Rambler
'Why am I getting weird e-mails at the rate of several each hour
from you? Please tell me if I should do something to stop this
crap!'
- A.Narked Rambler
'I think this is some sort of mad Ramblers campaign going
seriously wrong - see if you can upset every Email user in the
country.. Why is it everytime someone emails the Ramblers I get a
copy??'
- N.T.Happy Rambler
'This is my 70th e mail. Please could someone sort this out as
soon as possible.'
- Demanding Rambler

into the wrong hands... Ramblers, Spamblers...
