A record 50,000 plus visitors
made this year's Outdoor Show the most
successful yet despite a drastically slanting
NEC...
|
It was also the most diverse ever with over 500 exhibitors from areas
ranging from rambling right through to climbing, canoeing, diving,
adventure sports and adventure travel.
Vanessa Lawrence Director General of headline sponsors Ordnance
Survey believes that the show is 'fast becoming the event in the
outdoors calendar' and continued 'it is an amazing feat to think that
the show started in 2002 in only one hall and has gone from strength
to strength as the public and industry have really embraced it.'
the 2004 show occupied some four halls as well as outdoors space,
which seems appropriate and attracted some big names trying their
hands at new disciplines. Freediving World Champion Tanya Streeter, a
speaker and special guest at this years show swapped the sea for the
sky as she tried out the Virtual Hang Glider, climber Conrad Anker
made a splash in a kayak in the Merrell Wave Box. And champion rower
Debra Veal exchanged her paddle for an axe as she showed Vanessa
Lawrence how to scale the Sprayway Ice Wall.
Organised events within the show included The North Face UIAA-ICC
Bouldering World Cup - British competitors Gareth Parry and Mark
Croxall grabbed thrid and fourth places respectively - the Renault
Kangoo Indoor Adventure Racing event won by the Saab Salomon team and
various paddling events.
The speaker theatre and workshops were also a runaway success, so
it's no surprise that the show will be back on 18th - 20th
March 2005.
