The Reel Rock Tour is in the UK from 27 September to 27 December

Following enormous international success, with the most recent 2011 Tour achieving a global audience of more than 65,000 people at 290 locations, the 7th Reel Rock Tour will be touring the UK for the first time in 2012.

The Reel Rock Tour is an established, exciting project from the best adventure film makers in the world.  This year’s collection of films features amazing adventurers, alpine legends and climbing icons on the big screen as they tackle ground breaking new feats and try to fulfill lifelong ambitions at destinations across the globe.

The 2012 UK Reel Rock Tour will offer audiences so much more than just a film night however (albeit it with the newest most inspiring adventure films around!). The screenings will be spirited events where outdoors lovers and climbers alike can come together to celebrate the ultimate in adventure filmmaking. Giveaways will be available and audiences will also have a chance to win some great prizes each night.

The involvement of Mountain Rescue teams is encouraged, including climbing gyms/clubs and other organisations local to each event to foster a strong festive feeling and community participation.

This year’s lineup of world class films are:

The Shark’s Fin (23 Minutes)

Legendary alpinist Conrad Anker nurtured a 20 year obsession with achieving a first ascent of The Shark’s Fin, a spectacular unclimbed granite buttress on the 6,310 meter Mt.Meru, in India. In 2008 Anker, with Jimmy Chin and Renan Ozturk, endured a gruelling 18 day push to within hundreds of feet of the summit, casualties of enduring stormy weather and starvation. Three years later, the trio makes the tough decision to return, despite Anker’s deep family ties, and Ozturk’s ski accident just six months before the trip, which resulted in a fractured skull, a broken neck, and serious doubts about going back. Can the trio achieve a first ascent of this highly sought after summit?

Wide Boys (20 Minutes)

American offwidth climbing has spawned a counter-culture of rough and tumble characters who aren’t afraid to bleed their way up a route. So when two proper British lads, Tom Randall and Pete Whittaker, crossed the pond to eat up the gnarliest wide cracks in the US, including the first ascent of the world’s hardest offwidth known as Century Crack, it came as quite a shock .

The Dura Dura (23 Minutes)

Chris Sharma has been the “king” of sport climbing for 15 years, and has created a mecca for hard routes near his home in Catalunya, Spain. Now, Czech wunderkind Adam Ondra has come to Sharma’s home turf to take the torch. Sharma and Ondra battle to establish the world’s hardest climbing route, while Sasha DiGiulian and Daila Ojeda shred women’s standards with strong ascents of their own.

HONNOLD 3.0 (23 Minutes)

Alex Honnold has become known as one of the boldest climbers of his generation. In this dangerous game, how does he balance pure ambition with self-preservation? From first ascents, speed records and climbing some of the world’s largest cliff faces without ropes, Honnold wrestles with this question in preparation for his biggest adventure yet - the Yosemite Triple. In under 19 hours he climbs Mt.Watkins, El Capitan, and Half Dome, 95% of it without ropes.
