Cram launches New Kielder Run-Bike-Run event as part of Kielder Marathon weekend.
We told you about the inaugural Kielder Marathon a few months back when Steve Cram launched the 'mostly off-road' event and it's a serious challenge, but as part of the weekend – 16-17 October – there's also a more accessible Run-Bike-Run team race the day before the main event.
The race takes the form of a three-person relay covering the full marathon distance and comprising an 11km run, a 26km mountain bike leg and, finally, another 5km run.
Sponsors Berghaus are putting their mouth where their trousers are – or something like that – by entering no fewer than ten teams with an interesting make up including an all-female selection and trios representing product design, marketing, sales and the company's senior executives. No needle there then.
In addition to settling their own internal scores – 'I told them that zip was the wrong colour, this'll show 'em...' – the Berghaus entries will be raising funds for outdoor charity, The Outward Bound Trust which the company supports.
To add a bit of newsworthy pep to the event, Steve Cram popped down to Berghaus HQ to wind them up a little and also encourage others to get involved – class options include corporate, family and open with prizes for the top three finishers in each category.
Cram comments: “The Run-Bike-Run event is a fantastic addition to the Kielder Marathon weekend. Because the marathon itself is fully subscribed, it gives people who missed out on a place this year the opportunity to be part of the event. However, it’s also a great challenge in its own right, following a fantastic course around the shoreline of Kielder Water, known as the Lakeside Way.”
