The Salomon X-Adventure race series culminates in a 36-hour event
starting from the Glencoe Ski Centre on 7 September and competitors
who 'act inconsiderately' will face immediate
disqualification...
The event will cover around 300 kms and include running, riding,
'roped activities' - including abseiling 100 metres - canoeing,
canyoning and something worrying called 'Fun Yakking', which might
sound like taking the piss out of hairy Himalayan beasts of burden
but is actually something to do with a hybrid raft / canoe.
Competitors in the mixed-sex teams range from serious top ranked
adventure racers down to relative novices and the event is also a
qualifier for the inaugural British Adventure Racing Championships to
be held in North Wales in October.
Behave Or Else...
If like OM's editor, you've almost been skittled by an
over-focussed racer on a mountain bike - yes mate, try that one again
and the next checkpoint will be the last of your worries - you'll be
encouraged to see that Salomon is making a point of stressing
consideration for other people and the appropriate use of paths for
running or biking and the crossing of fences and walls only at stiles
or gates.
Transgression, say the organisers, will lead to immediate
disqualification. Having said that, if you're planning a quiet day in
the hills around Glencoe on that weekend, you might want to consider
an alternative venue.
