This year's Salomon On-Day X-Adventure series is over after a
hectic climax in Northumbria last weekend but there are still limited
places available for the Salomon 36-hour Endurance Race in Scotland
on 7/8 September.
The final one-dayer based around Kielder Water combined long
mountain-biking stretches with fell runs and a Canadian canoe section
with 30 teams from all over the Uk competing.
The eventual winners were Team Horwich - based on a Lancastrian
running club - who finished some 21 minutes ahead of nearest rivals,
the endearingly named 'One Foot In The Grave' team. Horwich cemented
their victory over the tough fell-running sections of the event
reportedly introduced after comments that earlier events had been
short of challenging running portions, something that worked to the
running-orientated winners' advantage.
'We're all over the moon at winning this race,' commented Sarah
Gorman of Team Horwich, who's obviously been watching too much
soccer, 'and now can't wait to tackle the top teams at the 36-hour
event in September'. For a full
report on this event, see the Sleepmonsters web site.
