Formula 1 driving superstar and all round serious chap Michael
Schumacher is a keen climber the Observer Sport Monthly revealed at
the weekend.
Alongside a spread of the flying topless Teuton seconding some
sun-kissed mega-crag in nasty, miserable rainy Utah - be he wishes he could climb in sun-kissed Derbyshire - the legendary Ferrari
driver explains that he got into rock climbing thanks to one of his
physios, who was helping him to recover from a broken leg, and was
'soon hooked'.
Right now Michael uses climbing as part of his training regime to
help build up stamina in the hands and feet and has a climbing wall
installed in his house. He's not taking it particularly seriously
though, he says, but continues 'maybe when I'm retired, I'll set
myself more serious challenges'. So watch out for him on an Eiger
Nordwand near you soon.
Ferrari, he says, aren't too bothered by his rock exploits as he's
not 'free climbing... I'm not that brave or that mad,' he's reported
as saying. Of course, unlike other climbers, he's not a driven,
obsessive control freak either, oh no...
