A scout leader is on trial for manslaughter after a 10-year-old boy scout fell to his death on Snowdon in October 1999.

In a case with obvious potential implications for youth leaders in the mountains, Caernarfon Crown Court was told that Peter Finlay, the scout leader in charge of the group, left Jonathan Attwell to pick his own way down the mountain, despite his age and total lack of mountain experience.

The Snowdon Horseshoe seen from the Glyders - the group
had reportedly traversed Crib Goch before the accident occurred

Finlay's Scout Association Certificate allowing him to lead such trips had expired two years before the accident and he had failed to complete a recognised mountain leadership course because he had not met all the criteria.

Finlay denies manslaughter.
