Second Lakes Festival Of Climbing Set For June
Duddon valley to host Free BMC festival again
The second ever Lakes
Festival of Climbing is from
Friday 12 - Sunday 14 June, based in the Duddon Valley again, close to
lots of valley cragging, within walking distance of Dow Crag, and only
a short drive from Esk Buttress and Scafell. Plenty of bouldering
nearby too, in Eskdale and at St Bees.
What’s
On?
The aim is to wake up each
morning, have a hearty breakfast and then go climbing all day. There
will be knowledgeable locals on hand to advise you of the best
destinations, and guidebooks and topos will be for sale. DMM
will be there to showcase their latest and greatest gear. Evening
socializing will be at the Newfield Inn with beer, food, music, prize
raffle and other entertainment, possibly involving juggling, fire
walking and a DJ. The campsite allows open campfires and the event is
free to everyone.
Accommodation
Camping is at Turner
Hall Farm, and there's more
camping and a bunkhouse at Wallowbarrow
Farm. Booking for Turner Hall is
probably not necessary, as it’s a big site. It would be best
to get in touch with Wallowbarrow Farm.
The Rucksack
Club have a property in the
valley and they are willing to allow bookings from mountaineers and
climbers.
Lift requests/offers and other
updates can be seen on the UKClimbing
forum.
Turn up anytime from Thursday evening onwards. Look for the BMC tent at
Turner Hall Farm to catch up with what's on. See you there!
