Around ten days ago Cumbria County Council announced that certain
central Lakeland fells could be re-opened from this Saturday 9 June,
it now seems to be definite.
There was a County Council meeting this morning to finalise
details and, according to the Lake District National Park Authority
'some routes on some fells will definitely be open from Saturday.'
Only certain paths will be open from certain access points where
there will be disinfectant baths and volunteers in place.
The fells which are expected to be open are:
• Helvelyn
• Scafell
• Coniston Old Man
• High Street (though not as originally thought surrounding
fells)
• Some fells in the Langdale, Borrowdale and Buttermere
areas
As yet the details of paths and access points haven't been made
public, but they should be appearing on various relevant web sites in
the next 24 hours or so and local Tourist Information offices should
have the information on paper by Thursday evening. You will also be
able to get details from the National Park Helpline on 0845
6014068.
The web sites to check are:
• Cumbria
County Council
• Lakes
National Park
More information on this site as soon as we have it.
