Quarrying has been an ongoing issue in the Peak District National
Park for almost as long as it's been in existence and now the BMC is
urging walkers and climbers to attend a controversial public inquiry
into quarrying above Calver.
According to the BMC, this could be the result if quarrying on
Longstone Edge is allowed to continue and it's not a pretty
prospect.
Walkers and climbers are being urged to attend the final day of
the Backdale Quarry public inquiry on Wednesday 28 February,
9.30am, at Calver Village Hall, Main St, Calver (off the A623
between Baslow and Stoney Middleton) to demonstrate their opposition
to continued quarrying in the area.
Briefly the Peak Park Authority is attempting to stop what it
believes to be unauthorised extraction of limestone from Longstone
Edge and the owner of the quarry has appealed against it.
You can find more information at www.peakdistrict.gov
and at www.longstone-edge.org.uk
where there's even a video explaining the situation.

Even if you're not in a position to attend the public inquiry, you
can still register your opposition to quarrying in the Peak Park at
petitions.pm.gov.uk/Quarrying
and we urge you to do so. It's an absolute disgrace that a
designated National Park is being willfully destroyed before our
eyes.
