A student from St Andrew's University survived a 200-foot plunge in the Cairngorms on Sunday.

According to this story in the Courier, the student was part of a group of four who were 'surveying a technical climb at Hell's Lum Crags in the Cairngorms' presumably after tripping over his theodolite... Or more likely standing under the route scoping it out.

Joking aside, he was extremely lucky with soft snow conditions cushioning his fall, although he still suffered minor injuries after striking rocks on the way down. He was stretchered to safety by members of the Cairngorm MRT who were already in the area.

There was another rescue not far away on Cairn Etchachan on Saturday when a climber fell some 20 metres and was again stretchered out.
