Stunning Mountain Photography Book Preview

OM contributor Alastair Lee has a new book of stunning mountain images on the way, here's a sneak preview of some great pics

OUTDOORSmagic regular contributor Alastair Lee - he writes the remarkably random Leeside monthly - is also, of course, a climbing performance artist and accomplished mountain photographer.

What's more he has a book of his photography on the way. 'EYES UP' is going to be a top print quality, A4-sized collection of Alastair's best mountain photography. Of course, Alastair being, well, Alastair, the landscapes will be augmented with some quirkier climbing images, so no suprise there then.

Joking aside, some of Al's shots are breathtaking and we thought you'd appreciate a private preview here on OM. The book should be out towards the end of October and priced at around £22. Start saving for Christmas. For more info on Alastair, see his web site. Links to his previous OM articles at the bottom of this page... Oh, okay, here are the pics, and yes they are a bit on the wide side...

It's not bad. (Hell, I even liked his last Leeside - what's happening to me??)

Though his use of cropping is... a bit weird. I dunno. Extreme cropping like that to force an otherwise nowt-to-special image into something more interesting always strikes me as... cheating. But maybe it's being creative?

I guess, as I'm strictly limited to the shape of a 35mm frame, I always look for images which are strong while retaining that format.

Dan, mate, the format of the book is A4 landscape, what you see above are all double page spreads. The wide panoramas are 180 to 270 degree views composed of several 35mm shots. Hope that explains the 'wide' images a little better for you.

Interesting stuff. I assume your using Photoshop to stick them together? It's certainly novel, which is nice
