Swiss Repel Nude German Hikers

A quiet village in the Swiss Alps has been forced to take drastic action to snip a potential influx of naked German hikers in the bud according to a story in The Independent newspaper.

The Indy reports that the Swiss Alpine village of Appenzel has modified local laws to allow police to fine naked ramblers on sight. Previously the authorities had to wait for a member of the public to report the matter to the police, which apparently rarely happened despite an influx of unclothed Teutons.


The final straw came when a German naturist organisation suggested the area as an ideal nude hiking destination prompting the unsavoury prospect of a naked rambling Blitzkrieg in the area leading to the pre-emptive legislative strike.

Locals are, according to the  paper, 'relieved', with a local tourist office worker Stephanie Sutter commenting. "They had to do something before it exploded this year. It's sort of a joke. But there are lots of kids hiking in this area and they shouldn't have to face these people."
