Team Macpac Smartwool were the winners of last weekend's Edinburgh
TNF Rat Race Urban Adventure elite category.
The race took place through the mean streets of Edinburgh with
teams covering 90 km in all, some 65 km by bike, 20 km on foot and 5
km in a kayak with the winners recording a time of 10 hour and 34
minutes some 12 minutes ahead of runners-up Compass Point, who in
turn were just ten minutes ahead of third place Team
Sleepmonsters.
The elite winners shared a total prize pot of some
£3,000-worth of The North Face gear and £1,000 of equipment
from retailer Ells Brigham.
Over 400 people took part in the event with the Adventure category
comprising 127 teams of three people each plus a Rookie class with
competitors taking part in the Saturday night 'Mean Street's
prologue.'
Event Director Jim Mee said, "The second Rat Race Urban Adventure
in Edinburgh has been gritty, challenging and quirky. The
challenges ranged from kayaking and abseiling to delving into
subterranean haunts. The feedback from the teams has been
overwhelmingly positive and we look forward to seeing everyone again
at next year's event."
Manchester Next...
No need to wait until next year though, the third and final 2005
Rat Race takes place in Manchester on Saturday 6 August as part of
the new Urban X event, which also inlcudes the the Bruntwood Aerial
Assault, a brand new concept which will see the UK's elite climbers
swapping limestone and grit for the brickwork and girders of
Manchester's buildings.
