The Best View In Britain Decided

Thousands of beauty spots, only one winner. What did the voters decide?

Aberglaslyn Pass, copyright The IndependentIt’s official: the best view in Britain is in North Wales. Lovers of Snowdonia have known it for a long time but it’s now been confirmed by users of the National Trust’s website who gave Aberglaslyn Pass top marks for its scenery above nine other beauty spots around the country.

Aberglaslyn Pass crosses the slopes of Snowdon so next time you’re up there, make sure you savour the view - assuming the mist hasn’t got there first:-)

Aberglaslyn Pass just pipped Borrowdale to the post, with St. Michael’s Mount coming third. Other spots that made the top ten include Brimham rocks (of Yorkshire climbing fame), Hardcastle crags (also Yorkshire) and, wait for it, the mountaineering paradise of Oxburgh Hall in Norfolk! There wasn’t much north of the border though.

And if you live down in the big city, far from any of those places, and you happened to be passing Paddington station last Thursday, you could see Aberglaslyn Pass on a high-definition screen that was specially installed for the occasion.

Now all the station needs is a train service that can get you to Snowdonia without winning the lottery first and Bob’s your uncle.

Ahem, anyway, if you have your own views on which of the many stunning wilderness areas in the UK should have won the vote then have your say in the forum.

Full details and photos from The Independent.

I thought Wastwater was 'Britain's favourite view'? Has 'Britain' changed its mind since then, or is it just that the National Trust's 'Britain' is different from 'ITVs?'

The Lakes is Britain's most beautiful region year after year in surveys so surely it must have the best view. I reckon they've finally put a telephone in darkest Wales and the natives had noone to call it being the only telephone, so they all queued up to call in and vote for this view. Whereas we, in the Lakes, have had them for the previous 10 years so we have gotten blase about telephones and didn't call in for the vote  this year.

What about Scotland? When are they getting the telephone up there? I heard the locals kept using the telephone poles for some sport they do up there.

I personally don't like the Wastwater view, but the Borrowdale is an amazingly beautiful area, not a bad view in the whole of that valley.

People only vote for things they've seen.  A lot more of the people who vote for this sort have thing have seen the Lakes than the Highlands, I would guess.

I don't vote in this sort of poll: I'm well aware there's too much I haven't seen so my opinion as to the "best" is pretty irrelevant.  Same goes for polls of best  gear etc.

Pete.
