The North Face Trail Hits Grizedale

Feeling a bit multi-disciplinary? The North Face is the headline sponsor for a stonking new mountain bike trail in the Lake District's Grizedale Forest. Check the pics and drool :-)

What with many OUTDOORSmagic members also doing the odd bit of mountain biking, we thought you'd appreciate a quick heads-up on the new The North Face mountain bike trail at Grizedale Forest in the Lakes.

Although it's not quite officially open, trail builder Russ Burton tells us that it's just waiting for way-marking posts and the route is now totally rideable and easy to tollow. Starting from the Visitor Centre, the TNF Trail is 10 miles long and includes some six miles of brand spanking new singletrack designed by the lovely Russ himself.

As the man behind the acclaimed Welsh trails at Afan Argoed, Burton knows a bit about building exciting, flowing singletrack. As the press blurb puts it:

'He specializes in building cute singletrack that feels like it's always been there. He has a cunning knack of spotting the right line, the most interesting line - and a nasty northern way of taking you up hill without realizing it. But he does also have lovely way of making sure you'll finish on a high.'

Here are a couple more shots from Russ's own web site to whet your appetite.... Just add bikes and stir vigorously for a cracking day out :-)

More information at www.forestry.gov.uk where you can download a draft map of the trail or by calling 01229 860010.

The North Face Trail has been funded by The North Face, Rural Regeneration Cumbria and The Forestry Commission. Nice one fellas.

We're all getting very cross disciplined at the moment, which can only be a good thing.
I've known many people who do just one activity and view all others as the work of satan.
Looking forward now to my first 'rambler' related story on bikemagic :o)

*Drool*

That looks like cracking fun.

I'd very much agree ptc*. I had a cracking ride at Llandegla last weekend and I'm off walking this weekend. We can all go out and enjoy the outdoors.

Agree Pete

Last Snowdonia meet, we had people walking, scrambling and climbing. It seems that at Duddon, there will be walking, climbing and mountain biking. Kayaking meets have also been proposed.
It's great that OM is NOT just about hillwalking. We are, after all, OUTDOORSMagic, not HillwalkerMagic :)
