The Ramblers call all walkers to arms

Don't you want to be sure of what's planned for your environment BEFORE voting?

The Ramblers are spearheading the way with lobbying MPs to ensure countryside access rights feature in this election, but now they want YOU! to help spread the word.

Their manifestolays out what they consider to be important countryside issues, such as protecting footpaths, ensuring access rights to open countryside, promoting walking and environmental matters, but not even The Ramblers can reach the eyes and ears of every single MP across the country. If we want the issues to be taken seriously then everyone needs to get behind them.

These lobbying tips may give you some ideas about where to start and although it's doubtful that many of us will get to speak to our MPs in person, a structured letter here and there could go a long way. Basically, they want us to contact our MPs and make them aware that their opinions on the countryside might affect the way we vote. It's also important to get them to pledge exactly what they'll do about it if they are elected.

From my central London window overlooking the Natwest Tower, the countryside seems like a million miles away right now, but even here much could be done to ensure the right of cyclists and pedestrians are prioritised over those of the car. So get scribbling and we can all help protect...altogether now...England's green and pleeeeasssaaaanttt laaaaaaannnnd.
