Three Buyers 'Interested' In Cuillins Estate

Will the hole in John MacLeod's roof be fixed soon then?

Here's a snippet you might have missed over the festive break - the Cuillin sales drama rumbles on with the BBC reporting the owner's sales agent as saying there is interest from three foreign buyers.

The potential buyers - two Americans and one from Europe - are being asked to pay around £10 million for the 35 square mile Skye estate which incorporates the Cuillin mountain range, which has been put on the market by owner John MacLeod of MacLeod ostensibly to fund repairs to the roof of Dunvegan Castle.

The putative sale has been dogged by controversy since the estate came onto the market last March with the Crown Estate looking into claims that MacCleod was not the legal owner of the range. As we reported before, even if the estate is sold, it's highly unlikely to have any direct implications for climbers' and walkers' access to the hills.
