Outdoors journalist Chris Townsend is the new president of
the Mountaineering Council of Scotland and has applauded an increased
investment in the body by sportscotland.
'The
Mountaineering Council of Scotland welcomes sportscotland's record
investment of £91,000 for the year 2007/8," says Townsend. It
will he says, allow "the Council to continue to encourage safe
practice in the mountains through its wide range of mountain safety
initiatives.
"The investment will also help us to continue to develop the
organisation by implementing our strategic plan and to research the
views of members and the increasing numbers of the public who are
venturing to the hills."
Townsend - above right - is the gear editor of TGO Magazine and
also renowned for his writing and expertise in the field of
lightweight backpacking. As anyone who's met Chris will know, he
lives and breathes the outdoors making him an ideal choice as
president.
The MCoS has around 10,000 members and is the sport's governing
body for hill walkers, climbers and ski-tourers.
