Two wheels are just one means of movement in the 400km event.

The epic 400km adidas TERREX adventure race in the Lake District is almost full, say the organisers. So if you want to compete in arguably the UK's toughest adventure race, you'd better get your skates on.

Over 25 teams have already signed up for the event and while there's still space for more entries, the closing date is 1 August for the race, which takes place on 27-30 August, 2010.

The route is kept secret until the teams roll up on the day before the race at which point they'll be given a series of fixed controls and left to plan the most efficient route between them travelling by bike, on foot and on the water. There will also be 'hidden surprises' along the way, like ghyll scrambling, abseiling or maybe an open water swim.

Competition looks set to be fierce with some top local teams entering and last year’s World Champions, Nicola MacLeod, Tom Gibbs, Nick Gracie and Warren Bates entered. They'll be facing competition from the likes of Haglöfs, Inov 8 and Planet Fear.

Paul Vousden from Haglöfs comments - 'The adidas Terrex looks like it is going to be a fast and challenging race. The Lake District features such a variety of terrain in a small area that this can only lead to it being an  eventful race with plenty to think about both before and during the epic race.

'Team Haglöfs are really excited  that a race of such high calibre is coming to such a popular and beautiful location. It will be fun to see more  spectators and supporters than usual, and to see the lakes in all their glory during the day, night, dawn and  dusk. We can’t wait for the adventure to start.'

The adidas TERREX adventure race makes up one of the races in the World Series of Adventure Racing.  Other  countries that are hosting qualifying races include – Poland, Argentina, Portugal, Australia, Sweden, New  England, Costa Rica, Brazil, Ecuador and France.  More information on all of these races can be found on  www.arworldseries.com.
