Wainwright On Back Of Bus
Lakeland legend has his own liveried double decker.

Who'd have thought it, the legendary Alfred Wainwright now
has his own commemorative bus courtesy of Stagecoach
Northwest.
The Wainwright Society reports that the special liveried bus is
one of three double deckers which ply the Lakeland Pathfinder 555
route from Ambleside to Keswick. The other two Lakeland personalities
honoured are Beatrix Potter and William Wordsworth.
The bus is particularly apt given that Wainwright himself often
used public transport to access the fells. It carries adverts
for Kendal Museum and a guidebook to the Lakes by Mark Richards
alongside a panoramic view of the fells and a quote from the great
guidebook writer himself. Finally there's a picture of Wainwright on
the back - his grumpy countenance should be spot on for the mood of grid-locked tourist traffic this summer.
There's a full story complete with pictures on the Wainwright
Society web site at www.wainwright.org.uk.

Finally, if you want to experience the full drama of travelling on
the 555 vicariously, here it is...
