The 'Wales Team' from Wales were the runners up at last weekend's
Japanese round of the Salomon X-Adventure series 2001.
The two-day event on the island of Hokkaido on the northern tip of
Japan, was won by the formidable Salomon eXtrem team from Spain in a
time of18 hours 42 mins with the Welsh finishing in a creditable 20
hours 2 mins some 18 minutes ahead of the local Japanese Salomon East
Wind.
Full report and pictures from the Japan round should be up on the
series
site in the next few days. The next round is in the US on 17-19
August.
Having witnessed last year's UK round in Snowdonia, I can tell you
not only that adventure racing at this level is unimaginably hard,
but also that the top teams competing internationally are extremely
fit by any standards.
