Walkers Missing On Cairngorm

Rescue teams, police and a helicopter are searching for two missing walkers.

The BBC and other media sources is reporting that a search is underway for two hillwalkers thought to be missing overnight in the Cairngorms.

The pair apparently failed to return from a trek across the Cairngorm plateau on Wednesday and at first light this morning, an RAF helicopter, police and the Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Team began a full search operation.

The latest forecast for the area from the Mountain Weather Information Service is for 30-40mph gusting winds and snow for much of the day giving white-out conditions on the tops, which will make searching difficult. Snow also fell in the area overnight.

Sadly earlier in the week an Irish woman died after slipping on ice in the northern corries and hitting her head.
