Comedian Mark Olver who's trekking from his home in
Bristol to the Edinburgh Festival performing and gathering
material for his show en route, is blogging entertainingly about his
progress as he goes.
Right
now Mark's heading up the Offa's Dyke trail specifically because he
thought 'it would be the prettiest one' but in last Thursday's entry
he admits to absolutely hating it despite its beauty and 'amazing
views', something most walkers will be strangely familiar with - how
can the most amazing places on earth feel like hell.
Another observation that'll ring true with a lot of us is just how
much better a little luxury feels after a day of discomfort:
'I had a bath in one of those baths with the little feet, and
slept till I woke up to the smell of bacon. From getting lost and
stung by nettles while climbing near vertical valleys, to laying in a
comfy bed after having a hot bath with lavender bubbles. Surely I
will never have another day of such incredible contrasts?'
Surely you will... But that's long distance walking for you. You
can browse through Mark's latest blog entries at www.berghaus.com
where you can also find a link for his justgiving page and
support Help the Hospices.
