Walking is the most popular participation sport for men according
to a new survey, Social Focus on Men.
Almost half of all men - 48 per-cent - claim to walk, compared
with the next most popular pursuit, 'cue sports (snooker and
billiards) with a mere 18 per-cent and cycling with just 15 per-cent.
By comparison, football scores a mere 10 per-cent, though it's the
most popular team sport.
It's not all bad news though, apparently the average British man
spends almost three hours a day watching television or listening to
the radio...
The survey isn't very specific about what constitutes 'walking'
though, and given the scope for improvisation and artistic
embellishment surveys are renowned for, we reckon walking probably
includes: walking from the sofa to the kitchen to get another beer
out of the fridge; walking to the car in the morning; walking home
from the pub when you're too pissed to drive and walking up the
stairs to bed. Cynical? Us?
Fascinating Fact: In 1980 20 per-cent of men read Reader's
Digest and 9 per-cent read Custom Car, fast forward to 2000 and 20
per-cent read FHM and 9 per-cent read the Sky Customer
Magazine...
