Weekend Weather 15th-16th March 2003

This is our regular Friday round-up of what's in store for the weekend. Latest news on the excellent Online Weather mountain forecast, is that it's now due back in early February, which is about erm yesterday, but it's still not quite up, though they seem to have been testing.

Inside the NEC it will be warm and dry, but for those of you who intend to be outside this weekend...

The
Met Office says Saturday's going fine and dry with long sunny spells, Sunday too :-) Temps 7-8 degrees C at sea level, windy in south.Plus there's an article about mountain weather and safety. Worth a quick scan. Finally 360-degree Met Office web cams in Scotland here.

The
BBC Weather site uses Met Office data, but is generally easier to follow. General outlook for Saturday is for rmist clearing then everywhere dry with long sunny periods, temps normal or higher, warm in sheltered areas.Sunday pretty much the same. Chilly wind in SW both days.

? Check BBC's specific areas: Fort William / Kendal / Betws-y-Coed / Aviemore / Skipton / Glossop (Peak) / Brecon / Milton Keynes. Eastern Scotland looks the best bet if you want to stay dry...

Saturday's general forecast from Online Weathers less optimistic, more cloud less sunl. Sundayeven more cloud but again with sunny intervals. We'll ignore this one...

Scotland Online Mountain Weather - Handy specialist mountain forecasts for Scottish east and west Highland areas and, strangely, Snowdonia and the Lake District. Well worth a look.

Wasdale weather - daily reports updated before 10 am and a current pic - always worth a loook just for the piccy - from OM member Guy Newbold who lives and works in Wasdale. Straight from the horse's mouth.Nice pics too.

Scottish Avalanche Information Service - forecasts at the time of writing low pretty much everywhere, but as always check for the latest forecast. Looks like a cracking weekend in Scotland.

OUTDOORSmagic web cam page Links to all the UK mountain web cams we're aware of. If there's one that we've missed, please drop us a line and we'll add it to the page. Good for getting a general idea of what the snow situation's like, if the sun is shining, whether there's anywhere to park in Coniston etc. Check the image you're viewing is up to date as they often seem to go down. Ho hum...
Dry and sunny
Too good to be true?

Verdict Fantatic forecast for the weekend. Clear, dry, sunny - only one thing to do, pack a windproof shell and gete out there. Scotland should be alpine...

Craven Disclaimer Hey come on, we all know mountain weather's unpredictable, and while the above forecasts and links are a guide to what the weather may do, remember that mountain areas also tend to generate their own conditions, temperatures are much cooler up top than in the valleys and conditions can be totally different from down in the valleys.
