Ever wondered what gear Ramblers like most? Nope, me neither, but if you're strangely intrigued, and let's face it, who who wouldn't be, the Walk magazine annual awards provide an interesting insight into rambling tastes in the noughties compered by none other than TGO's gear editor, Chris Townsend.

The full award results are available as a downloadable PDF from the Ramblers web site, but a brief perusal suggests that not all our prejudices may be correct. Take the boot award - Brasher are there in second place, but they've been beaten by Scarpa to the Gold title, with Meindl coming through in third.

Merrell is the suprising winner of the Best Walking Shoe category, Rohan strikes a blow for tradition under Best Walking Trousers while Lowe Alpine take the honours in the baselayer stakes. The question you're no doubt asking is who won the Best Waterproof Jacket award? Would the Pamamo-istas carry the day or would Nick Brown's directional clothing be outvoted in favour of the membraneous hordes?

The answer, joint winners in the form of Paramo and Berghaus, who shared the honours in a classic victory for diplomacy...

We won't bore on, but it was interesting to see that ramblers are still taken with Karrimor who won the pack award and that their pint of choice is Black Sheep :-)

You can download the full award details in PDF form from the Ramblers web site.
